Hi I’m Derrick aka DJ Baja Blast and I live in Fort Collins Colorado.
Over the past ~5 years I’ve slowly been transitioning from making music to making things that make music, mostly focused on unique open source MIDI input devices.
Designing hardware from scratch – schematics, PCB layout, part selection, code, 3D modeling for the enclosures, etc. – and then ending up with a physical thing that works in the end is very satisfying.
I also enjoy taking photos with my X100V – For my real job I travel a bit and this gives me a reason to walk around in the evenings.
In addition to personal projects and designing things for my store, I’ve done a few “commissions”:
- Designs for various art installation components (interactive piano, Teensy powered synthesizer disguised as furniture)
- Custom pedal setup integrated with my Loopster 2 for a drummer’s solo project
- Various custom 3D printed tools / enclosures / etc.
